Question about reading materials for a beginner
« on: February 11, 2005, 06:07:11 AM »
Am am new to relaoding in the fact that I recently inherited a complete RCBS setup, complete with dies and brass and bullets.  I need some reading material!!!  Is the NRA Guide To Relaoding a good starting point??
Also, I have seen some booklets that deal with 1 specific caliber such as .308, where are these available from.  Any suggestion will be helpful and appreciated!!

Jeff

Question about reading materials for a begi

Since you have RCBS equipment, I recommend the Speer reloading manual, which has specific instructions for using RCBS equipment.  If you have a favorite brand of bullets, you may also want to buy their reloading manual.  Reloading is basically just following a recipe in cookbook form. There's not much to it.  It is important to check your load data against two different manuals to make sure that they are similar. This is a safety check against typos.  I personally like to use the Speer manual and the Loadbooks USA books for specific calibers. Loadbooks each have load data for only one cartridge, and the data is copied from the manuals of all the major bullet and powder manufacturers.  I also use the Nosler manual because I have been using Nosler bullets lately.

You can buy Loadbooks from Midway, Midsouth Shooters Supply, Natchez, Graf and sons...caliber specific. You really can't have too many reloading manuals...it can be kinda confusing because each have slightly different limits. You will understand why if you read these loading books as most are a wealth of info.
Lucky you.......wish someone would have left me a setup...I could have saved thousands of $$

Thanks guys.  I will invest in these BEFORE I get too far into this.  I am one to over research something I guess, but it is better to be safe than sorry!!
Thanks again
