Is this for real?
« on: February 06, 2005, 07:13:11 PM »
Someone posted a link to an Ebay auction a short while back where a Mod. 58 Topper barrel was on the block. I went back and looked at the auction after it had closed and the selling price was $200. that seems about double what it should have sold for. Do ya'll think the Ebay seller had scammed or will someone actually pay that much for that.

There are a lot of ebayers that are ignorant of actual costs and product availability. It's best to research before making a final bid. If the barrel was a discontinued product, it's real easy for a bid to go that high....I've seen new TC Cherokee barrels go for as high as $350 because they are no longer made, the entire rifle didn't sell for that much, so it can be a seller's market.

Like now there is a box of Nosler Part in 308 dia 220gr on sale at ebay.  Current bid is over $25 and still there is about $7 shipping.

Midway has the same thing for under $22.  These guys do not shop around.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

I know things go crazy over there on Ebay from time to time but I was wondering if this was a standard think for the H&R barrels.
I would ahve given maybe $50 for it.
               Thanks,

The least I've seen a rifle barrel go for is $80-$90, shotgun barrels go for much less. I paid $120 shipped for a .30-30 barrel since H&R doesn't have any and hasn't for quite some time, now. The older obsolete barrel  calibers will command a higher price. If you use the H&R accessory barrel page as a guideline, you can figure out how much you want to pay...add $35 shipping/fitting to the barrel price to determine what you want to pay for an ebay barrel, be sure to look at the actual shipping cost to include that in the total cost, some ebay sellers really rip you off in shipping.

You know  the old sayings ..." There's a sucker born every minute".. or... " One mans junk...is another mans treasure"....I've wondered about some of the prices on some barrels and guns and what they are going for...it's either that someone is driving the prices up intentionally...or there are folks who are just in a buying frenzy...who just have to "buy something"...regardless of the price...or maybe they really don't know what their buying...who knows...the prices are rediculous no matter what the reasons...
