I also have a 597, mine doesn't jam hardly at all. But I have heard of allot of other people complaining about them. I'm just curious. How long have you had your 597? And how often do you take your all the way apart and clean it? When I first got mine I shot it a few hundred times and cleaned just the barrel, after a few more hundred it started jamming. It was then that I realized the gun must be took apart on a regular basis.

Ok guys: Here are my thoughts...If you use the plastic clips I will have problems with the clip feeding the rounds up into the top of the clip....For the bolt to pick them up......Try alittle dry lube on the interior of the clip see if it helps...It helped my feed problems......Steel clips are less problems....And yes 597s are tempermental rifles.....If they get to much gunk on the bolt rods they will not feed correctly....The bolt area needs cleaning about every 200 rounds....If you clean them they will work geat...Hope these tips help....

Bluff Hunter reminded me of something I never thought about. I have always used a dry lube on all the working parts of my gun, including the clip. This may be the reason I haven't had problems with my 597. Not to mention I clean mine all the time.

Here's another possible place to look to cure the jamming problem. First, remove the action from the stock. Next, check the two screws at the rear of the receiver that hold the action rods in place. They should be finger tight only. If they are too tight the bolt can bind and this will stop the rifle from functioning properly.  MI VHNTR

FYI

Rimfirecentral.com has a Remington section, and about 75% of the posts on there are about tuning the 597. It seems that recently Rem has released a new magazine for the 597 with a stronger spring, which has greatly reduced jamming.
