Off Center Barrel

I returned my Thunderhawk to TC for repair and instead of doing the repair they gave me a brand new barrel.  I haven't shot it yet, but just noticed the bore is visibly off center.  Will this affect accuracy?

:shock:      And that is just what you need to replace the old one.   Makes you wonder sometimes.  I have one that is a little off center,at least to my eye.  It shoots ok.  Now I would guess that we have to define OK.  My opinion is at first to send it back,complimenting them on thier quality control abilities.  My second thought on this is to actually shoot it to see how it groups.  I have been surprised in the past,so try it out,and get back to we know how it shot.  I learned a long time ago that somethings that do not look good on the surface,are a lot better on a second look.  Stay safe...king :-D  :-D

I had the same thing with a Stainless System 1 I bought during a special sale (shoulda knowed) at Cabelas.  Wasn't too happy but decided that I would keep it if the scope I had bought for it had enough adjustment to reach zero.  

Mounted the scope, got out the optical bore-sighter (some call it a collimator) and very quickly determined that it just wasn't in the cards...the scope hit the stops well before getting a zero on the collimator.  Sent the gun back to Cabelas and got a full refund.  As I recall they even refunded the shipping.  Thanks to the bore-sighter, I didn't have to fire a shot to make this determination.  These things are meant to work with a scope but are useable with iron sights as well.

The point is that the off-center bore probably isn't a big deal unless you can't zero the sights.  If you can't zero, then it's a very big deal.  

Incidents like this give me the feeling that things are sliding downhill at T/C.

It most diffinately don't sound good on their part. I have had two barrels bad from T/C. A muzzleloader barrel and a 300 win mag. barrel. Sent them both back ( 300 win three times) and they sent me new ones, ON REQUEST ON MY END. I haven't shot the ML yet, its a .45 cal. the first one that I had had the 1:20 twist in it and I couldn't get any accuracy out of it. And the 300 win mag. well it was a disaster. So with that being said, I guess good luck. By the way WHAT IS GOING ON WITH T/C ANYWAY? :x

Its more common of a problem than you think. The owner of the black powder shop I use said it was a problem a hundred years ago also. At least thats what I remember him talking about. He said the same thing, give it a run first and see how well it shoots.

If you're using iron sights and the bore is off center "up and down" it probably won't be a problem. If "side to side" it could be an issue. If you're using a scope it can be set up to compensate for side to side by adjusting the mount screws. If elevation is the problem a shim can be placed under the appropriate mount.
