Almost fell off the wagon today

Went by the local snob shop gun store today, just to see what was new.  Picked up a box of bullets and a one piece base for my Sav 110 project I am working on.  Guess what was in the gun rack...a 204 Ruger.  I asked the guy if I could look at it.  He handed it to me, my hands started to trimble.  I thought I might be having a heart attack or something like that.  My breathing started getting shallow and a cold sweat broke out on my upper lip and forehead.  My mouth got dry and I started taking real short breaths.  I looked at the tag, my vision was getting kind of blurry, but I think it said $219.  I think it had the 22 inch heavy barrel, not sure, couldn't see real good, was having trouble focusing my eyes.  Also had laminated stocks but not the cinnamon.  Just barely made it out the door before I started grabbing for my wallet,  was actually almost running.  Now here is my problem........should I go back tomorrow to check on the price and is $219 a good price.  Seems so to me.  I think my pulse was somewhat elevated also.  I think these things must be made of Kryptonite, cause I just start getting weak when I get around a new one.  I thought I might have to call like2hunt to talk me thru it but I knew that was not going to work either, so I just gritted my teeth and went on over to Wallyworld.  I justified leaving because I thought they might could order one cheaper, but alas, they didn't even have one in the book or rack.  I was afraid to go back by the gun shop.  Took another way home.   Tell me I did good.....cry:  :cry:

That's a hair raising story, glad you were able to fight off the temptation! :eek:  But, back to reality.....my .204 with the laminated pallet wood stock was $189.99, but they just got a new one in last week that is priced at $199.99, but has the solid pallet wood stock AND the ultra scope rail! My .280 also has the ultra scope rail, don't know why, but it does. Maybe H&R ran out of the standard rails??? For a mom and pop shop, $219 is probably close to what you'd expect to pay..... :wink:

If you do go ahead and get it that price plus tax, you just paid $22 more than Wally would order ya one for. You just have to go here: www.internetguncatalog.com and see if it's in stock. Then if it is go to Wally with all of that info and tell them ya found one at SportsSouth and here's the info(model#, etc.). They will be able to get it then, don't let them tell you they can't. Only thing is, I believe that is the price for the standard wood-standard barrel. H&R has come out with so many cofigurations of their stuff lately that even their dealers can't keep up with what's what and I can't either. I've seen all sorts of different combinations in the shops lately. If the one you looked at has the lam stocks of any sort then it is worth more than the $219 I would think. I just called H&R last week to see what a set of Cinnamom Lams in Monte Carlo would cost.............$98 and change now!  :eek: That makes ya kinda want to snag up all those cheaper priced guns wearing laminated every chance ya get now huh?

Just go buy it...you know you want it...why fight what your going to do anyway :wink: Your only going to say to yourself afterwards..."Why didn't I get it when I had the chance..." and then you be second guessing yourself for a long time from then on....save yourself all that agonizing greif and heartache...go back and buy it...you'll be glad you did...

I hope my wife does not read your post. She thinks that there is no earthly way to walk away from a new handi. If she finds out that some are strong enough to resist then I will look like the spineless worm that I am. :(  . You did good. Just don't make it a habit. :lol:

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the sickness not buying one :-D and what is this wagon everyone is talking about. But I think it would be good if you needed a wagon to carry your handi's, but I most certainly would not let any fall off. :lol:

There is also something to be said about instant gratification.If you had to order it it would take several days probably, and if it is in the rack at the gun shop you can tell more about what you are getting.If you get a shop to order it you are kind of stuck.

I paid $210 for mine.  All the shop's in my area were within $10 of each other. Unfortunetly I had to send mine back. Had a bad BBL!!!  First 4 shot's keyholed out of a clean & polished bbl. Been almost 3 wks. now. Still waiting!!! :(  :(  :(

A wagon to carry my Handis in now thats a good ideal. :idea: then I could get more handis :grin: Don't know about the .204 but I do want a .44 and a BC barrel for my .38-55 hmmmmm :roll:

If it gives you joy, it's a good deal at any price.  That's something I've had to learn during this lifetime.  I've always been the guy who got the "great deal" one day, then had to watch whatever I purchased be put on clearance the next day or so.

With a lot of will power and a lot of rationalizing I made it thru another day.  Did not dare go back and see if it was there.  I did however go to the other shop and check their catalogs.  They will order me one for $196.00 plus tax of course.  I am hanging on by my teeth here.  I really had plans of getting a really good Hart or Kreiger or such barrel for my Savage 110.  Want one in one of the 6mm benchrest rounds, maybe the 6XC.  Lets see now, what can I sell, maybe I can get both.   :eek: Now I ask myself, Self, why do you want another Handi, you are not even thru playing with the 223.  (Which I have had more fun with than any other rifle).  So why do I want a 204 Ruger.  Well I am into small boolets going real fast.  Yep it fits that for sure.  I don't enjoy heavy recoil, fits there.  Well, dang, it just fits I guess.  Can ya tell I am a gettin weaker.  Plus I need a new benchrest stock for my Savage project, that is gonna cost about $200.  Lets, see what else can I sell.  :lol: I knew when I bought those two extra guns last summer I would regret it.  Anyone need a brand new in the box Weatherby Vangard in 270 Win.?  I guess I just need to figure on this a bit more.  Dang, them little bitty boolets going supersonic sure do make music for me.  Checked Wallyworld on line, they don't list the 204.  Also SportsSouth didn't have one in stock either.  Man, I am just taking this hour by hour.  Why the heck is the ammo so high?  Does anyone know where you can get new brass?  Help me please....... :D
