SPRING BEAVER

Just wondering how many of you guys ,chase spring beaver?
 I can't wait till our ice starts to go.
 While spring beaver time is a real work out,I enjoy it much more than fall beaver trapping.
 The weather tends to improve as you go along,unlike the fall when it heads in the other direction.

They extended our season this year by an extra month. It will now end the end of March instead of the end of Feb.
 The conditions here has been so bad this year that I'm going to need that extra month just to get the small quota on beaver that we have here.

Generally, what condition is the fur in until the end of March?

Tick,our season runs till may 15--you heard me--may15.While the more southern parts of minnesota will not yield up good beav in may,I have taken some ggod beaver in our northern sections.Last year our ice went out the middle of april,I pulled my last traps may04.
 I would think that you should have no worries ,about taking beaver in your extended time frame.

yeppers im looking forward to spring bvr trapping as its alot easier than this winter  thru the ice.   The winter bvr  dont have the bite mark problem like spring bvr do but you work for them compared to open water spring trapping.  The  wolves in my area of winter bvr trapping have put a dent  in the population and  my take is down approximately 25% from  other years .  Havent seen one other bvr trapper either.  One otter trapper setting in two areas but that is it.  Like Tom said nice in spring to have it warm up and  get nice as time goes along... Toooooo   cold here in South Jersey for me. It's still gona get down in the 20's at night through next week.The bays, creeks and rivers are froze up. Nothing is moving.I have had it!!!
I am head'n to my place in North Carolina.To trap Otter the beaver will be in the traps with out trying for them.I'll trap till the season go's out Feb 28. Then head back up here to South Jersey and trap Muskrats till that season end March 15.
When you guys are trapp'n beaver in April, I'll be catch'n snappers back down North Carolina

I'm planning on going up to northern minnesota in the middle of march during my spring break.  got a week to do whatever.  sure would be nice if it warmed up by then a little.  thats about the only time i can get up there to do any beaver trapping (school)

Ilike spring beaverin down here in NC........the two year olds and pups are dang near perfect !!

Some days tho, I have to haul a cooler around w/ ice in it........too dang hot !!

I suppose i will have to chase them around some too.  The best part of the spring run is just to be outside with the change of season and watching the wildlife.  

Still chasing them around a little now though Tom.  Took 28 the last 10 days monkeying around.  Heading to Lake of the Woods for a few days and will probably try to catch 40 or 50 more.  

TrapperGriff, I dont know how far up here you plan on coming,but if it is this far, better bring the chisel lol.

i do this is my first year trapin em and ive got 4 just putin in small sets when im trapin other stuff. but this spring we will be hitin em hard we never get any ice so dont have to wait until it melts. ive got from feb 13 thru march 31 to focus on beavers. :grin:

Whats Spring Beaver ? With only having a 2 week long season to begin with I'd love to be able to trap Beavers longer. Our season is short due to our DEC reintroducing the Otters into my part on NY State.

Seems like Michigan should be considering a limit so we could get a few back in the area. Just a few years back the numbers started declining as guys from everywhere were driving great distances to find them. Local fur buyers numbers have shown the decline, and there just isn't many beaver anymore, especialy on state lands. Used to love the spring trapping, but even if you leave seed there's going to be another trapper or two hitting it as soon as you leave. Our season currently goes from Nov 1st to April 15th, far too long to not expect multiple trappers in on one colony. Fortunately there's still private property with a few, but even those areas are dwindeling.

I finally made it over to this website after being on Gappa's for awhile. I figure this is the place for beaver advice!!

I plan on hitting the beaver hard over spring break in a few weeks. Last year we caught our first 4 that week, so I'm hoping to double our total this year. My little brother already has 4 330's out, but they keep freezing up on him. Can't wait till it warms up!!!
