Before you load for this gun make sure you take it to the gunsmiths and have it headspaced and declared safe to shoot. I have read they have headspace problems as a norm in the 7x57 and that it may have something to do with the brass being a different size. That is the modern brass may be a different size than the old military brass these may have used. At least that is what I have read. If you got one that the bore is good congrats as most had rusty sewer pipe bores. That is for the military ones if yours is a sporter that may be a different story. The one I had was bad but I did not mind as I bought it to redo into a 45/70. The smokeless 1902 action is a good one and even was chambered for the 30/40 Kraig and the 8mm Lebel and the 762x54 in the military configuration so the action is a lot stronger than the black powder ones. Here is a pic of my completed one. If your gun does not headspace and the barrel is iffy the action is worth rebarreling into something else. This started out as a 7x57 Roller military. The only reason I had heard of the headspace problem was when I got this gun I did some research on them. Been so long now I do not remember where I read it. Of course it is a good idea to get most older guns headspaced expecially if they were military ones.

Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.
