Anyone tried this in 44mag withcast bullets? The speer manual shows it for the 45colt with jacketed bullets for Ruger and contendor only.I think it should be fine with my keith bullets in my superblackhawk.Maybe start out16 or 17 grains. What do you guys think? I have 5 pounds of the stuff and loading reduced loads in the rifles for the kids will never get it all used up. Thanks Todd

Been aming to do the same thing, just havn't got around to it.
I shoot it in 7mm-08 reduced loads and have found it to be a very good performer in the rifle.
As far as the handgun, I'll watch this post often to hear of the replys.
It's a very good question. Glad you brought it up. :grin:

You would be better off with SR-4756 in the .44 Mag. with bullet weights between 180 and 250 grains.

Just looked in an old Speer reloading manual, Number Ten.
It shows a Max. charge of 23.0gr. of SR-4759 using a 200gr and a 240gr. Jacketed bullet. Kinda strange one weight for two bullets that are 40gr. difference.
Let me know if you plan to use it and tell us of the results.

Hope I didn't get the name wrong. I might give 20 grains a try tomorrow 23grains would probaly be compressed.I still have some hornaday 180 step to use up.Yesterday shot some 250 keith loads through the charon only had 15.5 grains and avg velocity was 810fsp. Would like to get to 1000 if possible.

The IMR free reload data pamplet that I have shows 21.0grns max (compressed) SR4759 with a jkt 240grn bullet in a 44mag rifle. They don't show using that powder for their handgun loads and use 4227 instead. I've used SR4759 for my 44mag rifle with hard cast and jkt bullets but don't remember it being any better or as good as some of the other powders. The data even shows using a load of 25.5 H4198 (compressed) and I tried that too, but just as a lark.
