Tailgater Friendly Transport

When taking my half scale Napoleon out to the local range, I usually just put it in the back of the pickup and head on out.  Got to thinking about it a bit though and came to the conclusion that there are those members of the motoring public that might feel somewhat intimidated looking down the wrong end of a 2 1/4" bore.  What to do?  What to do?

I suppose that I could throw a plastic tarp over the top of it, or otherwise cover it.  Would solve the problem, half the fun of taking the cannon out to the range in the first place is having it seen !!!

So, got to thinking about using a muzzle plug to cover that gaping hole.  Came up with something that I think should solve the problem quite well.... the cannon will still be in full view but will be a lot less threatening to tailgaters.

What ya think?

Evil Dog,

Wow, you get tailgated when the cannon is in your truck?

A friend of mine owns a Verbruggen 3 pounder on a field carriage. Whenever he loads it in the back of his pickup to go to a reenactment, he says that he NEVER gets tailgated on the road.

Just in case though, we did work out a way to fire a blank shot electrically from the cab.   :-D  (Just wishful thinking. Wouldn't ever actually do it.)

Love the muzzle plug.

another good plug design would be a eyeball!

Or how about a red LED about three inches down  the bore with a switch up front.

Hey Evil Dog....great smiley on that tampion (no, not tampon).  I just recently made one almost identical to yours and merely nailed it to a piece of 1X1 about a foot long, which slides down the bore, just to keep the various bugs out of the bore.  Mine wouldn't stand up to the winds of travel in the back of the P/U though. Thanks for sharing. Blaster

Oh, I got it!.  Hook one of those small air tanks up to the vent and put a big hand full of flour down the bore.  Trip the valve to the air tank as you are going down the round.

it may have been a long time since i was a juenile, but i am still delinquent! :)
