Greetings
I have used the 1879 Springfield Trapdoor sight.. same as the 1873 but the 1879 has windage adjustment.
Your question is great and I can answer from personal experience as well.
The sight you have chosen is marked up on the step ramp to 500 yards, and when you bring the ladder up, it is marked up to 1500 yards. The front sight I used was a silver front blade sight
BUT you can use the current globe sight with a post/ball insert or the short post insert if you can see them. I had chose the silver front blade sight mainly because the Buffalo Classic was not set up for Long Range Matches but my own long range shooting hitting steel hanging buffalo targets that I had made and could set out to what range I wanted.
In most cases I was using cross sticks to shoot off of, like the old bison hunters would have done.
If you don't care about windage you've chosen a good sight. Just be prepared to slide the front sight back and forth on a windy day
