Skeet and Sporting clays
« on: March 27, 2005, 05:15:00 AM »
I have shot skeet for a number of years, mostly with a pump gun and strictly for pleasure, not compitition.  With the advent of Sproting Clays courses in my area I find I would like to try that also. I figure a new shotgun is in order for this and my question would be; What would your choice be for one gun to cover both sports?

I am leaning towards O/U action guns and I have always liked Brownings.
Probably a Citori with 28" barrels and invector chokes, though I do have a fondness for the old Browning Superposed.

Having said that, I am still open to any suggestions.

Thanks,

Robert

You're thinking correctly. An O/U with 28" to 32" barrels is the best choice. If sporting clays is the main use and IF you plan to try to become competitive you might want to think about 30" or 32" barrels. For skeet I really like 28" and for field use in hunting I much prefer 28" barrels.

Browning Citori is an excellent choice. I've owned several of them and generally shoot them well. Now I do not shoot their Sporting Clays guns well on skeet or clays. I shoot their skeet or field guns much better. You might be different however.

Thanks Bill and C130E. I appreciate the help. I'm not opposed to auto's or even other pump guns but those O/U's have a fond place in my mind.

C130E...is that McConnell or Scott? I'm at Scott.  I think the guard unit here has E's. It's hell being an Army puke working on an AFB and not knowing all those airplne designations!

rldarmstr.......I feel your pain......I was army and spent my last year at Homestead Air Force base..........Seems the army volunteered us for every detail that came along......painted parking lines on the lot at the BX....we even mowed the grass.........Sure was nice living in air force barracks and eating air force chow though!

Being a good citizen and full filling your obligation to your country, in my mind, really only requires 3 things......serve in the military if called..........serve on a jury if called......and vote.......I want to thank you men for dedicating yourselves to provide for my security......I appreciate you both.......and understand the sacrifice required to do it.......
