Shrade Oldtimer 165
« on: February 14, 2005, 05:55:51 AM »
I picked up a Shrade oldtimer yesterday at a swap meet.  I don't know much about the knife.  The blade looks like a skinner and it has 165 on the blade.  The handle is brown/yellow and the hilt appears to be brass.  It's a heavy knife but it feels good in the hand.  What kind of steel did they use in these blades?  The blade is a upswept and a little over 5 inches.  Anybody have any information on this knife and perhaps what it sold for?  Thanks.

I believe it's made from 1095 carbon steel.  E-bay has quite a few of them from time to time with costs highly dependent on knife condition.  I don't have a clue what the price was new out of a store.  I personally like Old Timer knives made from carbon steel very much but some don't as they will rust faster than a stainless would.

Koivu, you got me currious about my schrade so went and looked on e-bay to see what things were going for. There are 2 165's listed, the first one is in mint condition and accourding to the seller has never been used. (it looks like primo condition), highest bid so far is $42.00, the second one shows a lot of ware and scratch marks from being sharpened on a stone. Its highest bid so far was $15.15.
I have a 150T in fairly good condition (it was a gift) and the one they had was running about $15.00. Dont know what the orig prices were but I have  4 schrade's and they have all been good knives.

With Schrade out of business, I bought the last #57 lockback that walmart had. It's razor sharp, I really liked the schrade knives, I'm gonna miss them when mine are lost or just plain gone.  POWDERMAN.  :(  :(  :(  :(
