Artic Wear with Retain technology
« on: February 19, 2005, 05:18:28 PM »
Has anyone ever tried this parka?  They make the claim that 97% of the heat we generate it keeps inside the jacket.  I looked at their product and it is very light compared to my Raven Wear which is the best jacket I have found so far.  Is this worth checking out is it just Hype?...

Thanks  Buckfever

Howdy.  The local sporting goods store looked into getting some in and had some sample sets sent in for field tests.  You cannot complain about the light weight, or the heat retention properties.  Our climate up here in the sub arctic is very cold.  A few months minimum of -40 degrees.

The one issue that caused a lot of concern was the static electricity generated by the suit.  It could be just that our climate is so dry, but they seemed to have generated tons of static electricity.  The store was looking at bringing them in for outdoor workers, however, due to the proximity of combustibles for the workers, it was decided that the static electricity was a serious hazzard.  Even refuelling a snowmobile or something, the spark from the static would be enough to turn you into a fireball.

To make a long story short; the bibs and the jacket are quite lightweight, and very warm.  They do generate a lot of static electricity in our dry climate.  The mitts, gloves were not as effective at keeping hands warm.
