Hello, I'm building a couple of pop can mortars and am going to use a percussion cap to light them off. I really liked the one that Calamity Jane built for her cannon! I'm going to style mine after hers.

here are 3 ideas in the beginnings.

First and least obvious it the use of neodimium (rare earth) magnets to hold the bracket of the 'slap-hammer' onto the tube. Works surprizingly well.

Second is the steel piece on the golf ball mortar with two 'ears' to hook to the hammer.

Third is the aluminum channel with the 1/2" square stock hammer.

Just beginnings.
