Ejector prob???
« on: February 14, 2005, 02:44:40 AM »
I have a 308 barrel that the ejector will not drop to put a round in the chamber drags along the case. Also when the round ejects it only comes out partially & you have to pull it out dragging it along the ejector scratching the brass. I have cleaned it out well & this does not help.

What is involved with taking one of these apart & what should I look for in terms of damaged or broken pieces?? :(

Anyone else have this prob & what can I do to fix it (other than send it back or take it to a gun smith)

Thanks for the help

I have Perklo's instructions for disassembly of the ejector but I don't know where I got it, pm me with your email address and I'll send you the .pdf file. The link below also has instructions on how to disassemble it but without the detail that Perklo uses.

Hey Quick just for funny's if you wanted to make this into an extractor only what step would you leave out. ?? Not putting the ejector latch back in???

Info is great helps alot in the disassembly hopefully I will find out why it is not dropping to let the brass in or out

The link I posted above shows what part to grind away to make it an extractor, albeit, a spring driven extractor unlike the mechanical extractor coming on the new H&Rs. It will solve the problem of brass being thrown, but not the stuck case problem....just so ya know...

mechanical extractor

I wondered whether it was a mechanical or just a non-ejecting spring type... good to know.  Do ya think barrels with the spring type could be changed over to mechanical extraction?  Sounds like a question for the Oracle.

And the Oracle says.... (drum roll please).... NOPE.  No retrofitting is possible, different mechanism completely, no interchangability.

That would be correct, they are totally different in design....This was discussed within another thread a while ago, here's a pic of the view of the bottom of the 2 underlugs. The top one is the new style. Mac called em and they said that eventually all of their firearms will have the new style, they just need to use up the old style first.
