hey
for that price range yopu might check out a 6x18 nikon buckmaster
or a monarch in 4x12x40  (they are superb scopes)
another couple choices would be the bushnell elite 3200 in 5x15x40 or even the newest one in the line 7x21x40
check with theopticzone.com i think he carries all of them

I went with a Leupold 3-9 compact for my 527. Wanted something proportional to the little rifle.

You cannot have to much magnifaction from the bench, but it can kill you in the field. I use nothing more powerfull than a 3 x 9 on any of my varmint rifles. I have 3 - .17 cal`s, 3 - .22 cal`s., 2 - .25 cal`s, and a .204. My .17 AH, which shoots point blank to 290 yrds. wears a 2 x 7, the rest wear 3 x 9`s, and I use only Leupolds.

Ed,

I use 6-24x 44/50mm scopes in my .224 centerfires.  Sure helps on the range and in the field.  Check out Burris and Leupold scopes.  Both have the lifetime guarantees.  Lawdog

I have a CZ 527 Varmint 223 and have a Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16X40 AO on it, really nice setup.

I just purchased a CZ 527 Varmint 223. I have on order a Bushnell Legend 5x15-40. Ordered scope from Midway for $169.95.
Will see how this all comes together in a couple weeks.

If it is the Varmint model and the standard CZ 16 mm rings then 40mm is about it, if sporter barrel then 44mm but the rear sight may not allow the scope to be mounted properly.
I have a Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16X40 AO on mine, I also have the Bushnell Legend 5-15X40 AO and Simmons ATV 4-14X40 AO, I think they are all decent scopes for the money.

I have a CZ 527 with bull barrel in .204 Ruger (Wish CZ put the heavy stock on this gun).  I mounted a Swift Premier 6-18 x 44mm AO with the CZ rings with no problem.

The bad news is either the Scope or Gun or both have a problem.  I own a CZ 427 Varmint and it shoots great.  Have several friends that have CZ's in various calibers and they all shoot great, 1 MOA or less even with the 30-06's, .223's will make 1 hole in the target.  I'm lucky to keep a 4" group with this gun at 100yds.  Have shot about 80 rds. and JB'd the barrel with little improvement.  Just my luck.  Waiting on friend to bring me a spare scope to see if it is the scope or the gun.

On the Swift scope its inexpensive and the optics are great.  Paid $169 for it.  Several friends have Swifts and they have no problems, but with my luck both the gun and scope are bad.

Will post the outcome here when I find out.

I agree with DIVR-  Nikon is a great choice.  Buckmaster scopes run between $250-300 and Monarchs are $300-400.  I use nothing but nikon  monarchs becuase I get the same performance of a Leopold for about $100 less.  Monarchs and Vari-x 3's both have 95% light transmission.  The new Leopold VX 3's are UP TO 98% light transmission, but actually average 95%.  Also the Bushnell 4200 Elites are very good optics.  They also have 95% light transmission.  Another good choice is Burris.  Their Fullfield II series also boast 95% light and perform well.  Or if you want to go all out- Swarovski are by FAR the best scopes.  But do not get the Conquest series which are the cheaper ones because they are comparable to a nikon Buckmaster for twice the $.   And lets not forget the Zeiss Diavari series- VERY GOOD, for $1000.

Searsmann- I am assuming that you have a ruger rifle, and if you do, the largest scope size that will fit is a 42 MM.  There are not many options in this though, so you are pretty much stuck with 40 MM.  As far as magnification goes on scopes for 204, I have found that a 4-16 is the best OVERALL.  For those of you who shoot mostly prairie dogs or off the bench, a 6-18 or 6-24 is ideal, but is sometimes too much for dog hunting.  I have gotten myself into trouble a few times with too much magnification on larger critters because of a small field of view.  That is why I like a 4-16 or something like that.  My favorite is my Nikon Monarch in a 5.5-16x44mm Compact.  It has extended eye relief which I find to be ideal.

I have a cz american in curly maple and i still cant decide on which scope to buy. I like the elites but they are way to long for such a small rifle. I dont mind spending the $$$ but dont want to overdue it.

scope for my CZ 527
« Reply #14 on: March 14, 2005, 06:54:51 PM »
Hi: Guess I'm the oddball here. I own a CZ 527, but in the LUX version. I took off the front sight, punched out the rear sight, and mounted a cheap SWFA Simmons Expedition 6.5-20-50 AO scope on it. It is a very trim little rifle and to be honest, the scope is way, way too much scope for it. The darn 50mm objective looks like a television set mounted atop my rifle. However, I can see those tiny little .22 caliber holes at 100 yards with no problem and it seems clear as a bell. I've had trouble with other Simmons scopes, but not this one. It has that crinkle finish on it, it is ugly as Walt's dog, but it does what it is supposed to do, and at $99, that ain't bad. I had no problem with bolt handle clearance, however, I had to mount the front bell housing forward of the rear sight base. Bottom line, it works! Tom Purdom :D
