Ya know ...you'd think that when ya only order 20 of something and they are nearly a buck each that they would not try and sneak a boner like this in on ya!!!  Kinda ticks me off..I'm gonna use it as I've already polished all of them but I know I'm not going to get much milage out of it.... :(

My gunsmith just called, he ordered the reamer today, he wants me to load him up some smokeless ammo so he can test fire it, guess I'm in business as soon as the brass gets here cuz the reamer will be at the smith's tomorrow or Monday!

I can be your spotter for the load development quick, just aim it south west with a moderate angle of elevation. I'll go sit on the beach and call in the shots.

Man those suckers are BIG, if they fall short they may take out Fiji or New Zealand.  :-D

Man you guys are gluttons for punishment.  Over at the Shiloh Sharps talk forum they say most of the guys that shoot 45-110's load them down cause of the recoil.  And you went to 45-120????

Wear a shoulder pad.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

Bang_Off, that's a deal, mate!

Handi, I plan on it, PAST magnum recoil shoulder pad, plus the 2¼lbs of lead from my handi stock AND a slip on Limbsaver....if that's not enough, I'll put the laminated stock on it for load developement from the bench...  I've shot 405gr bullets from my .50cal TC Black Diamond with 120 grs of 3F T7 with no problems and it's considerably lighter than the BC, the Hodgdon load for the 45-120 is 95grs of 2f T7, shouldn't be an issue. But the smith doesn't want to clean it so he asked for a white powder load to test fire it....so he gets 45gr of H4198 and a 405gr cast load.

Iowa and the Mo both had Nine 16 inch guns and  would hurl a shell the weight of a small auto 23 miles or so and then explode and could do that every 30 seconds for each gun..   ..I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of either of um for nuttin!! All done with Black Powder too!!

The Mighty MO along with the New Jearsey and a few others where sister ships all packing 9 sixteen inchers, I was on a destroyer less than a mile behind the Jersey when she lit off a full broadside shot   thats all the bigguns and allthe little guns firing at the same time! BOOM like that! Its siad that it'll move the ship three feet sideways when they do that... I know it almost knocked me off my feet and I was almost a mile away, wanna talk about muzzle blast

I rather enjoyed it. espesally knowing they weren't shooting at me, we had been driving around shooting all day when they called everyone on deck to watch that broadside, funny thing it was a couple of weeks after the picture you posted was taken that were in the same place doing the same thing as the MO went to the gulf right after that and played games with some Iranians. 8)

By the way you guys are killing me I am gonna send my Target special off for a BC barrell and punch it out to .45-100... WHY I don't know guess I'm just sick. :-D

Well, called Buffalo Arms yesterday, the 405gr 457193 bullets are also backordered so I won't have them for test firing, but I do have a 457122 350gr HP lyman mold which there is white powder load data for, so I cast some up to load when I get the brass next week from Mast. Whilst I was lookin for the 350gr mold, I found a mold I forgot I had, it's an obsolete 457406 lyman that casts a 475gn RNGC bullet!! I might just give it a try!! I did a google search for that mold and it is quite popular, found a few posts of shooters looking for them used and prices for them of $70-$125!! One thread described it as a "gas checked beauty"!!

Deadeye, if you can't find a smith and you don't want to do the ream yourself, send me the barrel and I'll get Dan to do it for ya, I'm sure I have a frame that it can be test fired on....
