I got to shoot the new BC today
« on: February 16, 2005, 02:49:23 PM »
This is one of the absolute best shooting accurate weapons I ever wrapped my hands around.I just bought it Saturday.Today I shot some factory 300 grain HP loads and some handloads of my own plus some loads I bought from a custom loading company about a year ago.
To start off with at 100 yards I was in the black and a little right which was easily corrected with the adjustable rear sight.Thereafter I was all in the black and grouping about 3 inches.Familiarity and custom loads will improve the groups.
The feel of the rifle is very good.Trigger pull is just right and recoil was not bad at all. What a good compliment to my other 45/70 which is the one I hunt with. It's a regular Handi with the shorter barrel.
It must have been fun.I took about 75 rounds with me and shot all but one.I never go home without at least one cartridge. One never knows.
I shot about 10 rounds at a string and then let it cool off and let me relax a bit by popping with the AK.Man,what a difference.
While at the public range two state troopers pulled up in two cars. One got an M14 with a holosight out of his trunk and both of them came down to the firing line to shoot a few rounds.I got to shoot theirs and they shot the 45/70.
I really had a great day shooting a really great rifle.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70..it's almost a religion.

Hey Stan, watch out for those State Troopers, they may look like nice guys but don't shoot against them for money or guns!!!....<><....  :-D

State troopers

That range is in a national forest and only about 5 miles from an interstate highway. We get a lot of troopers who drop by either to fire their sidearms or rifles like today or just to BS awhile.I never met one that wasn't pleasant and friendly.
We also get a lot of correctional officer trainees there as the training facility is not too far away.
I must say that all State troopers that I have met are basically a good bunch.Even the guy who stopped me in downtown Greenville,SC a couple of months ago doing 70 in a 35 was pleasant. It was very embarrassing to me because I don't usually speed.Interstate 385 just suddenly dumps you into the downtown city streets.BLIP! You go from 70 to a 35MPH zone.I wasn't paying close enough attention.I admitted to him that I wasn't and he just gave me a warning ticket.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

What it all comes down to Stan is we are all people and we are all the same, we don't like to be lied to. It has been said that more people have talked themselves into tickets than have ever talked themselves out of one!!....<><....

It has been said that more people have talked themselves into tickets than have ever talked themselves out of one!! I am happy to hear that overall, your contacts with Troopers have been positive.
Thanks, I will sleep well tonight, and that last glass of homemade wine, a gift from my new neighbor who makes it 55 gallons at a time, only has a little do with it....<><....
