Sorry...didn't mean to start anything. I just went a couple rounds at my daughter's school about this very topic. Spelling doesn't help when they know absolutely nothing about grammer or punctuation. The FCAT scores are so important to the school that they teach nothing else. If it isn't on the FCAT tests, it isn't in the curriculum. Makes me sick, and makes the kids look like idiots. And worst of all, there is apparantly nothing that can be done about it. So, you kids out there,

u talk any ways that u want, okee, and be shure to do stuff in the leased amont of tim two.

You have to be a certain person or be in a certain position to take and/or like constructive critcism.

As a musician, I have to take it. If I want to grow in my field, I must. Of course, I do it to others just the same. Sometimes I might not like it. If someone starts rashing on me about one note in a measure, you bet they'll get a piece of my mind. But hey, still definition of 'constructive criticism'. Now anyway.

Deerslayer, tell us wut exactly is goin on w/ the gun? Is it on order? You still saving up money? Is it still in your dreams at nite?  :) .  :D

Well I guess you would say I'm still saving. right now I don't have but around 75$....but I'm working to make the money. I'm growing tomatos and peppers plants in a green house. When they get big enough I'm gunna sell the to people who grow gardens. That should really bring in some $$$. If there is enoough room in the green house to grow the amount of plants to make the $$$. Plus I'm praying for a show storm so I can shovel a few drive ways. :grin: Belive me by summer I'll have my rifle or I'll cry :cry:  :-D

You didn't list my three favorites but I will list them. In this order 280, 270 and 6.5x55. Of those you listed I quess the 25-06.

Is that the scpe that your supposed to shine a flash light in to help in low light conditions? Ya might want toreconsider that one do you really think that is a real practical idea? You might want think about a scope that give good light tranmission so that that you don't have to bother with such stuff

Well I chose the .308 for deer hunting, but if you expect to go to 400 yards.  No option then.....25-06.  Enuf said.

Nope. No .25-06 in the 700 Mountain Rifles LSS. And I think the boy really likes the rifle. So...that idea might be shot.  :D

Howdy everybody...Long time no see. Fish is right the .270 700 MR is still standing strong. But I am gunna have enough money this summer to get another rifle to go along with my 700. I'm gettin ready to get a marlin 917v .17 HMR. I hope to get it befor turkey season. But I already have a part time, summer job lined up for me as soon as school lets out. So I will have the $$$ to get both rifles :)  For some reason the smiles aren't working? so :) this is the best I can do.

A question, can you use autoloading rimfire rifles in your state? If yes, GET REMINGTON :) . If not, eh, I guess you can go with that Marlin. I've also heard good things bout Savage as well. You best get 700 first, then get the .17HMR. Ya might also wanna check out the new .17M2 (Mach 2). Another sizziler indeed. Must be nice to be in youth :roll: .  :D

Well, who-ever told you good thing about the savage is exactully what I would call......ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....RIGHT! I have seen a few groups on rimfirecentral. And I think a good group spells accuracy, and that spell A GOOD GUN! We are allowed to have simi-auto's here in West Virginia, and I have a 597 LR (ya know the one I took swiming, By the way I'm just about back to normal from that) But I was thinkin of gettin a marlin for the accuracy of the bolt action. But I'm not real sure yet. But I do know that I don't want a .17 M2. Cause the reason I first got the thought of a .17 HMR was while researching the .22 magnum. It start as I wanted a .22 mag to go with my .22LR and the .17 M2 would just be down grading from the .22 mag, were the .17HMR  is up grading in accuracy and distance from the .22mag with out the cost of centerfire ammo.

I also thing your right about gettin the 700 first. I can always hunt with my .22-250 this spring in turkey season. And then use my .17 in the fall, that is if our cockide DNR allows my county to hunt in the fall this year. Ya never know with them.

Uhh...ima research this so I don't sound like a complete idiot, but I'm pretty sure the .17M2 is faster than the .17HMR. I might be mistaken, that's why I'm gonna research it. But, every man to his own. I own a Savage Mark II rimfire bolt action, that's why I'm reccomending it to you. Affordable, yet it's accurate. I have mine topped off with a Simmons RedField 3-9x32. Nice setup :twisted: .

But, you do what suits you. My opinions and my likes are not omnipotent and ones that you should follow. My opinions are just that...opinions.  :D

The 17 HM2 is based on the 22 LR and the 17 HMR is based on the 22 Mag. The 17 HMR runs 2580 fps. and the 17 HM2 is running about 2100 fps.  :grin:

Yep...John you got it just right. The only thing you left out was the difference in accuracy :lol: From the pictures I've seen of people groups...The .17 HMR completely blows the .22mag out of the water. 8) But fish you right everyone has the own thought on the .17's and some still prefer there .22mag, whether that is cause they fear change on not, every man to his own. But the .17's are a much better choise in my opinion.

What I'd like to do is find a single action revolver (I think EAA makes it?) that has the convertible cylinders; .17HMR and .17M2. That'd be a heck of a pistol  :twisted: .  :D

.270 gets my vote from the choices, but in Putnam County, NY its shotgun only. The only thing I go deer hunting with is a 20 gauge Rem.

IMO- the 270 is a great all around cal. - the 30-06 is probally the most overlooked cal. today due to all the new cal. coming out. I like the 270, but if I were held to just one I would go with the 30-06 for the reasons of more bullet choices for smaller or bigger game. If you never hunted anything larger than deer the 270 would be fine. Ballisticlly speaking you take 75% of the cal listed in the pole and there won't be 300fps differance in all of them and most will  be capable of killing deer at 400 yrds. Most say you need to retain at least 1100 ft lbs at point of impact distance for deer.

DS15 - main thing isto shoot a gun that you are comfortable with and have convidence with. good luck DM.

I just wondering why the 300 Magnum is not listed?  I have been using one off and on for 12 years for whitetails.  Call it over kill if you like, but it kills them like a lightening strike.

The boy's looking to kill deer...not to kill deer and for himself to get knocked around too :)

A .270 will fare any deer hunter just fine. Now if ya wanna go for elk and bear as well, then sure, go with a .300 Mag, but otherwise ya don't need it. Geez, even a .270 can handle bear and elk along with deer, so why you'd need a 300 Mag besides the confidence in power, which don't do ya no good if ya can't shoot anyway. My :money:  :D
