I just mounted the scope on a handi I bought in 204 Ruger about two hours ago(much to my wifes dismay)My question is this, should the extractor eject a round from the chamber after the action is opened or am I suppose to pull it out with my fingers????My U.S.H. pops the shell out when I open the action fired or not.

The Handi is to be switched over to extractor so you can pull them out and save the brass. :wink:

I just got back from the range with the New 204 ruger and I love it
It shoots Hornady stuff o.k. (40gr.) around .75-1 in. but I can't wait to get a set of dies for it and really see what she will do

Okay,,white eagle and ruger#3.....I'm a bit confused after reading your posts....as to the extractor and saving brass thing.....my ultra 243 and my new ss handi 223 both eject the shell/casing out of the breech whether it's been fired or not.  
Saving brass........I shoot....I eject...I bend over and pick up the empty.
What am I missing with these newer guns.

BTW....great group with the 204 for the first time out......and I really believe in Hornady ammo also.....shoots best in my 243.

Gimme EXTRACT every time.  My 223 took LOTS of work to get to work correctly as ejector, my .45-70 LAUNCHES brass and requires bunches of effort to recover.  My 204 presents me the case via EXTRACTION and is much BETTER!

Extractors just lift the shell so that it may be gripped and removed by the fingertips as in fine shotguns or the Ruger and other single shot rifles may be set. The ejectors are found on the basic single shot shot guns or rifles and they sling the brass outward with force as in the original handi's and toppers. You don't have to police the range or dig brass out of the snow, etc., with the extractors. Ejector's are not allowed in NRA BP shoots. I believe the NEF line is being switched over to extractors.

That would be correct, H&R is switching over to all extractors as they use up all the old underlugs....as soon as those are used up, all H&R/NEF firearms will have extractors as do the new 204 ruger handis do. The difference is in the underlug construction, totally different so you can't convert the ejector to a mechanical extractor like the new version from H&R. You can convert an ejector to a spring driven extractor though to save your brass.....
