:? I'm lookiing for a real nice .308 rifle for long rang shooting(out to 500yd). What is your opinion of the cooper Classic? Is it worth the money? Thanks Justin

Never seen one myself, but April 2003 issue of Guns has a review , and they claim Cooper's standard accuracy calls for bore diameter + .125" from outer edge to outer edge. The target included with the test gun showed a .057" group. The basic gun is $1000, which is not far from production guns.

I'm willing to think about a gun at that price that shoots that well, and looks as nice as this one did.

Cooper has a VERY checkered past. At times their quality and accuracy have been superb, at other times horrendous. The customer service however I've seldom heard anything good about. Me I'd not want to put that much money into them.

I have two of their rimfires and they are superbly made firearms. Their problems came during the time Dan Cooper lost control of the company. Quality control and service were problem areas and there were a lot of disatisfied customers. He now apparently has regained control and things are supposedly a lot better. I just bought a .22 magnum with a test target with a three shot group that is about as close to one hole as you can get.

The basic Coopers can be bought for under $1000 and they go up from there. I paid $400 for a used one but that was a steal. Their rimfires are built like a high quality centerfire rifle. Perfect wood to metal fit, no plastic. A picture just doesn't do them justice. Its not a rifle everyone can justify as there are a lot of accurate rifles for less money. I
