Pull out of DC
« on: February 17, 2005, 01:06:28 AM »
For what its worth, I found this interesting statistic in my e-mail this morning:

According to icasualties.org , there have been 88 hostile fire deaths caused by firearms since the beginning of hostilities in Iraq. The remainder of coalition deaths have been due to explosives or accidents.

What does this mean?

If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in theater during the  last 22 months, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000. The rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000.  That  means that you are more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun  contol laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

The conclusion?

We should immediately pull out of WASHINGTON, DC!

Thats a good one! I read in Combat Handgun's (I think) that New York City, Chicago and Los Angelas are 5% of the U.S. population and account for 25% of all the homicides in the U.S. Lets see what these three cities have in common..........its almost impossible for the average everyday citizen to carry a handgun!

I have long advocated sawing the District of Columbia off and pushing it out to sea.

I have also long advocated swapping Detroit for Windsor, Ontario but I've never been able to find any Canadians who would go along with the deal.

When I was in D.C. with the Navy in '69, we shared training facilities at Anacostia with the D.C. police trainees.  At that time, Army draftees could volunteer for D.C. police duty rather than regular Army duty.  Many thought that this was a great deal, much safer than Viet Nam!

If Congress gets wind of this, do you suppose they might put in for combat pay?

Magooch, if the true was known congress has probably already voted themselves combat pay.  Just another way to fleece the American sheeple. :)
