advice on crow calling
« on: February 17, 2005, 02:00:47 PM »
I built a call using the radio shack amplified power horn as shown on this sight. I took it out today to call crows. I had several to show up but they stayed to high for a shot. Do I need to  add decoys to get them closer or is the volume to loud on the call. Any other ideas would be helpful.                   Thanks

opposum high fliers are a sign of educated crows or spooky crows in my opinion.

Are you well camoed up?  Has the area your hunting been hunted previously?

It doesnt take to much to smarten them up.

I have great success calling with the crow fight.

I have had good success with and without decoys.

I have seen cows go plumb crazy when I have used a owl decoy and action was often hot and heavy.

I feel its important to be totally camoed and to let the crows come on in and get excited.  When they get excited they call in more crows and things  get pretty fun real quick.

I like to let them get to swarming in close pretty good before I attempt to move to start shooting.

If you still have high flyers after your camoed up good and have been patient wating for them to come in you may want to find some new places where they havent been educated as hard.

opossum,
If you have some netting camo that is, You can build like a roof over your self if the trees are to where you can. Crows are about the smartest critters on   earth, They can see every thing below them and if they have been shot at the slightest movement will spooke them, as for calling i think the crow fight is probanly the most effective. Good luck.....Joe......
