Choosing the right Handi
« on: February 23, 2005, 08:34:42 AM »
I think I saw where someone showed Wal-Marts supplier's website with the SB2-F23 with the fancy new stock on it.
Can I get Wal-Mart to order this rifle for me?
Also in the mix is the SB2-2S3 stainless with heavy barrel.  Can this gun be ordered from Wal-Mart?
I have looked at the Wal-Mart website but I don't see these two models listed.
I have seen the SB2-2S3 at, 'Cheaper Than Dirt' here in Fort Worth for $249.98.  I think this is a good price.
The reason for the inquiries is that I'm going to get my son a Handi and when he sees that fancy Choate model he will go, 'gaa-gaa', over the looks of this new model.
I have lost the link to WalMarts supplier does anyone have it to post again?
Thanks in Advance Gents

Here's the link to Sports South's internet gun catalog. You may be able to print the catalog page for the specific model, take it to Walmart and if you are lucky, the clerk will be able to find it in the store catalog, which I've read at RFC is different than the online catalog..... Good luck!

The in store catalog is different. They don't list the 204 yet or carry the Huntsman.
I've decided on a Handi myself.  a stainless 22-250.

The nice thing about picking the right one is for the price you can add to it as you see fit. I wanted a stainless reciever and a monticarlo stock. I will send it in for a 209X50 barrel (stainless) and a trigger job.

Thought about a .17 NEF but will be going with the Savage 93 since it is offered in a left hand bolt.  Life is good!

The stainless 22-250 shows in stock at Sports South, Walmart should be able to order it if the clerk knows how.  Shooters at RFC have had firearms not listed in the catalog ordered by knowledgeable WM clerks, it just depends on who you talk to. The new Huntsmans are both out of stock.

I have been working on befriending the sporting goods manager at the Wal Mart that I go to. I have discussed with him that others on this site can order guns (H&R's) thru their Wal Mart even if it does not appear in the Wal Mart catalog and that several of posters on this site even work for Wal Mart and know how to get it done. He has said he would be happy to try it for me if I ever want a gun that Sports South lists and is not in the Wal Mart catalog. You really can accomplish more being nice that being nasty and insisting they do it for you....<><....

Mr. Quick
What does RFC stand for?
And while I'm asking stupid questions, what do these two acronyms stand for?  ttt and btt
I'm not too hip with the latest lingo on the interneto.

Michael, the only stupid questions are those not asked....RFC is another web site, RimfireCentral.com. ttt or btt is to the top or back to top to put a thread back to the top of the forum list.

And to touch on a previous topic of this thread, MrLizzzard went to Walmart today to check on the availability of a firearm not listed in their online catalog, the 243/50cal combo rifle. The WM clerk verified with their supplier that it was indeed in stock and was ready to order it if he chose to. He was told that WM can order any H&R firearm made if it is in their supplier's inventory.    A big thanks to MrLizzzard for showing us the way!

gun ordered

I could'nt order a Handi over the phone. Seems WM cannot take a Visa # over the phone. Oh well, the little woman needed a couple things anyhow.
So with 50% down my pick is on the way.
It did take a few phone calls to two stores before I got here I needed to be.
As MSP stated being polite will get you much farther than being rude. Hats off to an ol' lawdog.
The WM I went to is a "small" one, so the clerk could'nt tell my how long it will take. I had another store conferm it was in stock. Any guess as to how long?

While I have your attention...

Are the stainless barrels any more or less accurate? I know it has no certain answer.

And I'm looking at using a Lee loader which only neck sizes. Would a full length resize be necessary - better - or - ?   (22-250)

Thanks for the kind words rp. I have ordered 2 guns through Wal Mart in the last 3 weeks (thats how I am getting to know the Sporting Goods Manager, his name is Phil and we are on a first name basis now!!). Each one took just about a week to 9 days to come in. The big sticking points are:
1) is the gun ordered immediately when you order it.
2) are you notified as soon as it gets in.

This is the biggest problem that I have found. About a year ago I had a gun sit there for 2 weeks when they said they called and left a message, but there was none on the machine. The last gun sat there for 3 extra days until I called. It came in on a Friday, the manager said he called and left a message, none on the machine. I called on Saturday and the clerk said it had not arrived. I called again on Monday and spoke with the Manager and he said it came in the previous Friday, 3 days earlier!!! I mentioned I called on Saturday and was told it was not in. He told me only he knows when ordered guns come in...what a system...Oh well, he is a pretty good guy, but he has to work with what they give him....<><....

I was in Wal Mart this morning trying to find out also if the stainless handi with the heavy barrel in 223, but the young guy at the counter wasn't much help.  He did call up the buyer for the store but more dead ends as far as ordering an Ultra Varmint with fluted barrel or the stainless handi with heavy barrel.
I left WM and went straight to Cheaper Than Dirt and ordered the Ultra Varmint Fluted.  Cheaper Than Dirt gets their guns form Sports South also.  The price for this gun was $316.00 + tax.  The guy said it would be here in less than one week.  Thats too bad tho I won't get to pick it up until sometime late March.  I just got an out of town work assignment in Lawrence, KS.  I wanted to get the rifle tied down and waiting on me when I got back home.  The clerk said all was fine with that and they will keep it till I get back.  My son dosn't know about it yet, he is gonna flip!  Sports South's inventory shows there were six of the Ultra Varments now there are five left.
