I have a custom 24" heavy barrel in 7-08 but it is a little heavy and a 6.5 X 55 sporter weight that stays on the frame most of the time. The .260 and 6.5 X 55 are about the same in ballistics. I reload so the better availability of factory ammo for the .260 didn't concern me. I load 95 gr. ballistic tips for varmints and 120 and 140 gr. hornadys for deer. The lack of recoil in the 26 caliber is why I like it so much. If I was going out West hunting for mulies or larger game I would use the 7-08 but for white-tails, coyotes, and ground hogs I like the 26 caliber. The majority of my shooting is at paper targets so the .26 is the best hands down.
good luck
