Bad shooting, cold, new gun,new powder, new lead sabot ar my ex
« on: February 26, 2005, 12:09:47 PM »
Shot a 4" group at the last with my new Sidekick using 80gr. of APP ff and 325 gr. buffalo sabots. That was from 50yds. First 5 never hit the paper. So much for boresighting,Used CCI primers and Win. CCI was cleaner. It was cold, fingers felt like I had boxing gloves on.The buffalo's loaded easy kinda, spit patch and dry each time.
Very little recoil compared to 777 100gr. pellets, less smoke and cleaner barrel. No crud ring. But I could miss a deer at 100yds.
Plan on cleaning pumpin lead thru it,cleaning and pumpin lead.
Hope to give a better report very soon.I used Tall see thru mounts and a Mueller 2x7x32 ML scope.Gun comes up fast, seems at my eye, very smooth and was very well balanced.

all the best,
lizzzard

Here's a couple hints to try to get your groups better:

1) use a little more powder - 2fg APP is about 10% weaker than Pyrodex or 777 pellets.  I found that it took about 115gr of APP (or Clean Shot as it used to be known) for a 300gr sabot for best accuracy out of my Knight.

2) That barrel needs to be broken in some before it shoots its best...........and shooting plastic sabots won't do it.  Either shoot about 30 patched round balls or lead Conicals thru it  OR work about a dozen patches of J-Bs (or similiar) bore paste thru it.  Either method will take the rough spots out of the bore and increase acccuracy.
"Every moving thing that liveth, I give unto you as meat" (Gen 9:3)
Aim small.........miss small.
Trust God..........but keep your powder dry!
