I think you'll find the recoil in a 30-30 G-2 considerably less than your .44 Blackhawk....way less in .223.  Recoil is very subjective and is judged very differently by most.  I'm assuming 14" barrels on the G-2.  Addition of a scope will help too....of course your Blackhawk Hunter might be scoped as well.  Go for it....it's a great pistol and you're considering two of the most popular calibers.  GOOD SHOOTING',  Walt   :)

I just bought a G2 in 44 mag and to me it has a pretty good kick to it with a 12 inch bbl. I shoot 44 S&W in mine and the kick is a lot easier. I have a set of High Plane's  custom stock ordered for it that should be here sometime next week and will see how it shoots then. I just picked up a set of grips and 15 inch 223 barrel for my encore so have to give it a shot soon. I really like the 223 round and have a 26 inch barrel for the encore and it shoots nice.
