I really don't know a lot about hound's. They run and howl, bark at trees and there's a bunch of guy's standing around in the dark saying thing's like "yep, there's ole Bill". But just a thought, I've been on a bunch of coon hunt's when I was younger and have read some on hound hunting. Seem's like the dog's are usually caught and tied for the kill then turned loose on the animal after it's dead. Kinda sound's like the reward system.
I watched a video in which Colin Davis was hunting with a trial dog down south. Dog's don't retrieve in Aemrican Field but, when Colin killed a bird for the dog, he would take it to the dog and let the dog pull off the head and eat it! A bit grusome but it does give the dog a better reason to find and properly handle the bird than a pat on the head.
If you don't let your dog maul the dead animal, maybe that will work. I don't know, just a thought. Oh yea, Colin Davis was the trainer/handler of Natl. Ch. Quicksilver Pink.
