Got a call today...
« on: February 12, 2005, 09:59:29 AM »
A friend of mine who's creek I trap on called me this a.m.   He's been calving for about a week now, and he told me that this morning as the sun was coming up and he was working his calves a "big nasty coyote", in his words, was watching from the edge of a CRP field about 100 yards downwind.  He has more fox and a few 'cats on his land, but apparently the 'dogs are moving in during calving season.

Guess where I'm headed tomorrow morning?

Sounds like a golden oppertunity do your thing, If your friend is working his cows and the coyote is hanging around he is not going to pay any attention to you, So you have a good chance to nail him. Hope you nail him cuz hes up to no good. Good luck..........Joe............

Got rained out the morning after the phone call, but went out a few days later.  Wind was strong out of the NE, and I called for 25 minutes or so before I had to go to work.  Nothing.

Only halfway done calving though, so I'm sure the 'dogs will be hanging around for a while.  This one's not over!

I started with a few locator howls, then went into the dying rabbit blues.  Would like to have had a calf bawl on an e-caller, but I don't.

Back at it tomorrow a.m.
