270 UltraComp!!
« on: February 28, 2005, 04:18:47 PM »
Just got a .270 UltraComp barrel today, thanks Mac.   It took major fitting to make it work, but my plan worked. Had to shim the barrel pivot, used a piece of .012" feeler gauge, cut to size and epoxied in place with JB Weld, then I worked it to a good fit with emery cloth, took almost 2 hours of sanding on the pivot, but she fits good and locks up tight!! Another success story.... I think....I'll know for sure when I get it to the range!!

Sounds like a worth while project. I hope its a good shooter. I think a 270 barrel or gun is on my short list. I quess its almost a duplicate of my 280 but heck, who cares.
shot placement is everything.

Hazard, thanks! I've been yankee engineering my whole life, my dad and his dad were the same and I just inherited the mechanical abilites from them along with some good training and lots of experience with stuff like that. I believe that the worst thing that can happen with a barrel fitting is the barrel will pop open at the shot, scary but not harmful, except for the hot case hitting you in the forehead!! And that can happen on any new Handi.....and does too often, it seems....
