Good pair of Boots ?
« on: March 10, 2005, 10:08:39 AM »
I hunt exclusively in Florida so my boots are wet quite a bit. I have been through almost all the major brands (Rocky, Danner, Herman, Red Head and Browning) I have yet to find a pair that lasted more than 2 or three seasons before becoming "unwaterproof". I need something uninsulated, quiet and of course waterproof. I think comfort is relative to the foot of the wearer. I take care of my boots by treating the leather, cleaning etc. I hate slip on rubber boots. Anybody got any suggestions ?

Finding rugged, uninsulated boots that are water proof might be a hard thing to do.   I would have suggested MilSurp Mickey Mouse boots but they are both insulated and rubber.

You may be destined to buying new boots every other year or so with those specs.

Canadian Rubber Boots

The Canadians have a lot of wet lands and have over time developed rubber boots that are more tailored to your feet.  You may have to consider a light amount of insulation.  BAFFIN is one company there are others.  Muck boots are also rubber but don't have much for support.  I have never owned a pair of non-rubber boots that claim to be waterproof that stay that way for long!   Thanks  Buckfever

I like leather a whole lot better than rubber too, but when it comes to keeping water out, rubber's got the edge.

My wife just bought me a pair of LaCrosse rubber boots. I got the Buckmaster 18" version. They are by far the most comfortable pair I have had yet. A little more expensive, but well worth it. They are lightweight, uninsulated, and 100% waterproof. I also go through a pair every other season or so here in Florida. Nothing worse than slogging throough the mud with wet feet. I'll have to wait and see how these hold up. Here's a link.
