S.D. p-dogs?
« on: March 05, 2005, 06:11:12 AM »
I'm looking for places to shoot prairie dogs with my Dad in South Dakota. Any hints on where to start looking?  I'd love to take a couple long weekends with Dad and burn up some ammo this summer, so any leeda would be appreciated :-D .
Thanks!
Mike

Mike;  When I was in the Air Force and stationed near Rapid City I used to shoot lots of .223 ammo down range at PD's!

I used to go South and East of Rapid City on Hwy 44, from Caputa to Farmingdale and sometimes I'd  go further toward Scenic!
Most of it is open to the public, but there is some that is private!
You will be able to find a place to shoot!
Have fun, wish I was going!

PM Questor and ask him where he went in SD. I'm pretty sure on his last PD hunt he went there and had a good time. He probably won't see the thread here tho.

Mike; This link will give you some additional information on hunting PD's in SD!

http://www.sdgfp.info/Wildlife/hunting/PrairieDog.htm

I hadn't realized that there is a closed season on PD's on Public land!
I'm sure you can dig around on the above link and find all of the information you'll possibly need!

Here is a good source of information you should read.  Be sure to look at Page 24 I believe which will give you location by county of the the most acres of dogs.
