I have a 30/39 , rechambered 30 carbine 1:10" twist , that I have reloaded a fair amount for but I have not shot it over the chrono yet.I guess I'm afraid to see what some of my "good loads" are doing in reality!
A good friend has a 30/39 JDJ barrel and he uses 30 Herrett loading data , a practice I would not recommend. A fired 30 Herrett ,Remingtom 30/30 brass, has about 8% more volume than a 30/39 case PMC or Win. The loading manuals must also be approached with caution because the bullet diameter and or bore diameter are not sometimes logical. One manual uses .311 bullets with a bolt action Ruger with .308 bore and another uses .308 bullets with a SKS .311 bore. So I try to stay with the Lyman loads because they use a pressure gun to develop their loads . I set myself an imposed limit , as close as I can tell from the literature , ok 46K on the pressure side because TC's seem to be ok with 223 ammo .374 head size at 48-50K and 44 mag at 40 K and the 30/39 falls in between. I also measure headsize expansion and none of my loads give .001 expansion. I have loaded 110 and 125 bullets of various configurations and have used AA1680 (good powder but a little on the fast side for 125 bullets) and i have used H4227 good powder but not for top loads. I like Reloaded #7 for most of my loads and H322 coming in 2nd choice. My barrel is very accurate with all of the bullet and powder combinations tested with the 110 V-max and the 125 Ballistic Tip being the most accurate bullets tested. Most of my shooting was at 75 yards because of lack of 100 yard shooting platform. The two bullets mentioned will shoot about .5" at 75 routinely. I bought some of the Remington 110 RNSP and while accuracy was in the 1.5-2.0 range I will use them in another barrel that they work better with. Hope all of this rambling helps and my ballistic program fed all of the powder and barrel length predict a velocity of 2250 with the 110 bullets and 2150 with the 125's but theses are just predictions and just that. Load information gleamed from other sources agree with these predictions so the Chrono will tell when I can get it out and run some over the screens.
