Rear sight for the BC?
« on: February 27, 2005, 10:31:14 AM »
Hey gang,
I have been thinking about what to change the rear sight to on this rifle. I want to use it out to 500 meters in BPCR silhouette, what are you guys doing for rear sights? The stock rear does not have the adjustment range to shoot that far.
I found one rear tang sight that is in my budget, (read low dollar) but it is tang mounted, you think it would be ok to inlet the base of the sight or should it just be drilled and mounted to the stock?

Here is the sight I found, http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=464388 it looks good, but I haven't found any locally to look at or found anyone that has one. What do you guys think would be good for a rear sight?

Here's the best choice I found that will avoid mounting a sight on the stock which is not the best as far as I'm concerned. With barrel movement between frame and barrel and with movement between stock and frame due to humidity changes, consistent accuracy would be hard to maintain. The Smith ladder sight doesn't have windage adjustment, so a windage adjustable front sight would be required which will run another $165+. Another choice if you want to stay with a wrist mounted sight, would be the Marbles 9813.

that sight you listed as well as either of those quick listed would make good sights for the bc
i have tried all three and ended up using the smith ladder
it has the best combination of long range and hunting capability
if long range is all you want to do with it i would use the sight you listed and just mount it straight to the wrist of the stock
thats what i did and i could keep 6inch groups at 500meters
the smith doesnt have windage but if your front sight is centered on the barrel it will shoot very straight on calm days
if wind is up you can always use kentucky windage with the smith sight
just my two on it

Thanks guys,
I am going to get one of the ones I posted, I figure I can fold it flat and put the normal sight on when I hunt. But I will have to go out of state to hunt with it as Ohio says shotguns only..... but that is another story that I don't even want to get into.

I ordered the Smith Enterprises "Wesson and Harrington Long Range" sight last night (the 4191 link above). It says it will fit the stock mount holes on the BC.  I'll let you know how I like it when it gets here.

Ian,

Sounds cool, if you like it are the drinks on you at Phone 3?

I used to hang out there way back in the day, also was a Thursday Night Rider if you know what that is.

Those guys are nuts.  I sold my Harley last year, heard about one too many melons cracking on the pavement.  Phone 3? Dunno about that one.

Yea, as time went on we got a group of squirrels in there, I sold one back years ago, then my Triumph was stolen out of the storage garage I had it in down in Lexington 2 years ago. Phone 3 is/was a bar there near the courthouse, two streets over from Madison Gardens.  I think it is cool that there are so many members on here from Kentucky, makes me feel at home!

I think that bar is closed.  There's two or three downtown but since I don't frequent bars, I'm not sure.  I do my drinkin at home.  It's safer that way.
