does WipeOUT work

on moly? I have several guns that have been shot with molied bullets and I want to get them back to clean. I have tried Barnes bullets in a 25-06 and they really coppered the bore! Only 20 rounds !!! X's not the coated Barnes bullets.;

The web site says it will remove moly....I've used it for about a year now, it's the best bore cleaner I've ever used.....so far.  I've never shot moly bullets, though.

Well, I bought 2 cans,and tried it in my 25-06.It seems to work on moly as the bore is shiny now.As is six other guns from .17 to 6.5 caliber! I re-
cleaned the 25-06 and the patches came out clean.I left it in over night the 1st time and a couple hours the 2nd. Wipe out is strong stuff and stings sensitive skin.,so wear gloves.I can't find any damage to the guns' finish. All cotton patches work better than 50/50 cotton polyester Tee shirts?? The blend seems to swell and hang up in the bore.

I've only used 100% cotton patches, never have tried the others in years. I bought a case of military patches 15yrs ago and still have quite a bit left. I use bulk cotton patches for the small bores. 100% cotton seems to work great with the WipeOut.

Do you oil your barrels after using Wipe Out?

After reading about Wipe Out here on GBO's Forums I've decided to give it a try.  I just got some and read the directions on the can. It' says quite plainly, "Do not put oil in the bore.  Wipe Out contains a powerful anti corrosive that prevents rust."  I usually follow directions but I've been oiling barrels for years after cleaning them and it's hard to try something new without questioning it.  I was just wondering what everyone else does and how it's worked.  BTW, I am going to follow the directions unless I hear otherwise.

About the finish on your gun.... protect it from prolonged contact with Wipeout.  It will mess it up.  I let some drip on a beatup hardwood floor in my old place and it permanently discolored the varnish after sitting there overnight.  It doesn't sting my hands but then again, I wash them promptly if I get any on me.

Getom59, at their web site above it states the same, but I'm not sold on that idea. I have a lot of confidence in Eesox, Breakfree CLP and The Inhibitor so I always finish up with one of them. Have been doing so for the last year with the WipeOut, works for me.

Ian, their web site states that WipeOut won't harm modern stock finishes, but it will remove varnish and oil finishes. So far, I've not had any issues with it on any of my rifle stocks, but then, I don't leave it on any surface that I don't intend for it to be on, which I think is prudent, just in case. It doesn't have any effect on my skin that I've noticed, but my last statement covers that issue, too!  :wink:

It is safe for all modern paint, gunstock finishes and steels. It however is not safe for varnish , shellac or old oil type finishes.  IT WILL REMOVE THEM.

Wow! that was an excellent article.  Looks like I'll be getting some Eezox or Break Free CLP pretty soon.  I just tried one application of Wipe Out in my Handi .223.  I think it's cleaner now than it's ever been.  The patches came out gray/blue at first but it didn't take too many patches before they came out completely clean.  I didn't put any oil in the bore but I plan on using it this weekend after which I'll clean it and apply a light coating of oil until I can get some CLP or Eezox.

Just my .02, but, altho I've never tried it, I just heard about a home-brew. It's made of equal parts of hydrogen-peroxide & vinegar---supposedly works great, but I don't know if It'd be effective on moly build-up. Hope I didn't cornfuse the issue. jd45.

I like wipe out since it doesn't stink, I believe its relatively safe to handle and work around, IT WORKS, and since I  live in remote Alaska, I can mail order it. I still lightly oil my bores afterward because I try to really wipe the bore dry after cleaning. On some heavy copper fouling I had to let it sit overnight and do two more heavy applications. But I like the foam idea filling the whole bore.

JD45 - don't know about that peroxide and vinegar formula but remember vinegard is 5% acetic acid.   I think you could count on it creating rust if you accidentally left drops somewhere on your metal. I sure won't try that.
