Mac,
I agree, it is pure enjoyment to visit a gun shop. My favorite, who has the largest selection of used rifles in Billings, admits he can not compete with Wal-Mart on new rifles. So he has specialized in the used gun market. He states that after Wal-Mart sells the gun, they come to him for ammo, mounts, rings, scopes, cases, and advice. And since Wal-Mart does not take trades, often he gets an offer to buy the the old toy at an agreeable price. He also specializes in customer service. He stands behind every sale. He has lots of experience and good advice. Obviously, he has adjusted to the changing markets and times. And is still making a living. Sometimes, at the gun shows, I hear shop owners complaining about the internet sales and chain stores taking their business. I guess they don't remember the '60's hit:"The Times They Are A'changing..."! And things are never going back to the old way. My advice to the complainers: Adjust to the changing times, or shut your doors. But don't expect me to assure your living or retirement at the cost of mine!
