I'm looking for opinions on a new BAR.  I hunt deer where shots could be anywhere from 10 to 300 yards.  Do many of you hunt with these rifles?  How is the trigger?  Thanks for any feedback.

I've got a BAR Safari in 30-06 with a Burris 3-9X40 Fullfield II w/ballistic plex reticle.  In my totally biased opinion, it is absolutely the best all around woods & medium long range hunting set up there is.

The gun weighs 7Lb 6Oz bare & dry.  With scope & loaded mine is about 8 1/2Lbs.  It's not exactly a mountian rifle, but the weight combined with the gas operated system goes an enormus way toward taming recoil.  I have no problem keeping the target in the scope when the shot is fired.  This makes for a very quick follow up shot if needed.

I found the factory trigger to be a bit heavy for my taste, so I had my gunsmith work it over for me.  You will probably want to do the same!  Now my trigger pull is a nice crisp 2 1/2 Lbs.  Other than the trigger, I've done nothing else to the gun.

Love the Ballistic Plex reticle on the Burris.  It allows you to sight in "dead on" at 100 Yds and then use the 200, 300, 400 & 500 hash marks for the long range stuff.  Sighted in dead on at 100Yds with 165Grn Nosler Partitions, I'm 1/2" low at 200 using the first hash mark.  Have not got to test at 300Yds & greater yet.

This BAR has turned out to be a lot more accurate than I had anticipated.  Although I only shoot handloads through it, when "shooting for groups", I get sub MOA performance using 180Grn Ballistic Tips, 165Grn Partitions, and 180Grn Game Kings with an average group being around 3/4".  These are the only bullets I've tried so far.

Everyone has their own ideas about what makes a ideal hunting rig, and I guess as you can see, I've got mine as well.  It's the BAR 30-06 Safari!

I have a BAR Lightweight Stalker, in .308 WIn.  I have a Bushnell 3200 Elite 2-7x32,
mounted on look-under rings.  It is the sweetest brush rifle I have ever owned.
It shoots sub MOA groups with just about every 150 gr, and 130 gr, bullet load combination
I have tried in it.  The only drawback I see in this rifle, is the trigger sucks.  Mine will
get a trigger job, soon.

I have the BAR in .308 with a 3X9 Luepold scope.  If recoil is a problem for anyone, the .308 is the rifle to get as in the BAR the recoil is so little that it is hardly noticible.  This rifle is also extremely accurate, as accurate as any bolt action i've ever owned.
