Has anyone hear of or tried 2230C powder? It's suppose to be a pulled powder I belive and has a burn rate between 2230 and 2460. Just wondered how it worked in the 223 or maybe 308.
Thanks

Are you refering to Hodgdon? I bought some of their Data 2200 which was surplus from Soviet Bloc countries and it is great. I still have over 6lb of an 8lb jug. Call the supplier and try to get some info on it.

Handloader magazine just did a write up on it (No. 233). It's from Accurate Arms. Described as "A mil-spec ball propellant for duplicating the M-193 ball cartridge. Slightly slower than Accurate 2230."
The article goes on to say that you can use AA-2230 data. They talk about loading .243, .223, .22-250, .30-30, .30-06, 8x57 mauser, and .45-70.  One problem I could see with it is that it is available only in 8lb. jugs.

I bought a 8lb jug of the AA2230-C awhile back as it was on special for around $55. Supposed to be like you said, between 2230 and 2460 burn rate or even closer to the 2460. The jug says military surplus powder on it but nothing about pull down. Have some loaded up but not tested yet. I was already using 2460 for some loads but don't have any rifles that need the 2230 powder in. I'm hoping it will work well for light bullet loads or cast bullet uses in bigger calibers than 22 centerfire. I know it will work in my 30/30 with jkt or cast bullets.

I have a few jugs of it, and it is from Accurate Powder not Hodgdon.  I contacted Accurate Powder tech support by e-mail and got a response that I should use AA2460 data for AA2230C powder.  Although I don't use it for .223 (use their AA2200 Data Powder for that) I use it for 22-250 and it is excellent.

It is very fine and meters very well through an RCBS UniFlow and always exactly on weight.  Relatively clean burning.  I have also used it in 30/06 loads with 130 grain bullets out of a 15" Encore and that performs very well.  Also used it for a GC 170 grain cast 30/30 load and that also performed very well.

Not in my shop now, but I believe it is printed on the AA2230C jugs that it is manufactured in South Africa.  I don't think it is a pull down powder.  The AA2200 Data Powder is a Chech military surplus powder, and a bit faster burning.

Yes, I stand corrected, Accurate Arms....forgive me. Tom, I tried 2200 in my 22-250 Encore but I got high pressure signs. I used 31.5 grains of 2200 with a 52 grain BTHP and was getting flattened primers. What load did you use if you don't mind me asking. I just checked my records when I read your post and had to ask. Or were you refering to using the 2230c in your 22-250??

I am using a mild load of 34.5 grains of AA2230C in the 22-250 and it is very accurate.  I usally get flattened primers with just about anything.  What I look for are cratering at the firing pin indentions and primers that flow outside towards the end of the primer pockets.  I don't consider flatten a sign of excessive pressure.  That load clocks out at just over 3,000 fps out of a 15" barrel.  Didn't put the Crony on the 26" barrel with that load yet, but it is very accurate.  I use a 55 grain bullet in both the 22-250 and .223.

On the .223 I am loading with the charge data that they post on the side of the jug, don't have it written down in front of me now.  Shoot that in Contender pistol and carbine barrels as well as in an AR-15.  Works well in all.  I have not tried the AA2230C in the .223 as I get good results with the AA2200 Data Powder in that.  Haven't tried the AA2200 Data Powder in the 22-250.

I load for several different wildcat and shot alot of mil. powders where you have no good data to reload from. At the price of this powder I bought 48 lbs., the max. I could get on 1 has-mat ticket. I have not loaded any of it yet, and won`t untill hotter weather. That when you should work-up all of you loads to be safe. With the burn rate of this powder it should work well in a very large number of different rounds and cals. At present prices I`m thinking of ordering another 48 lbs.
