Well, I got out today and did a little shooting with the new sight. I didn't get along with the buckhorn very well, I think a change to a thicker post in the front sight may help that. The one I have in there seems to get lost in the rear notch.
I had three batches of 5 shots made up. All shots were at about 75yds. I ran one wet patch and 2 dry ones down the barrel between betches.
1st was a 405gr HP from a Lee mold I think, from some that DJ sent me last year. They were lubed with Rooster Jacket. The load was 75gr FFg - .030 card - grease cookie - 'nother card - boolit. Compression was just till I heard a decent "crunch", then I set and locked the seater stem.
2nd was the same boolit but without the cookie and the extra card. Same powder charge. Boolit seated deeper naturally to account for the absence of the 2nd card and cookie.
3d was a Lyman 535gr Postell lubed with SPG, no cookie, just 1 card and 75gr FFg.
The first shot of the 1st group I took was with the aperature at 200yds... printed about 8" high. I used the buckhorn for the rest. They were about 4 or 5" low and 3 to the left but when I did my part I got 3 just short of cloverleafing. Nice group. The 4th was just about on level with the bullseye and left like the rest. I pulled it, knew it when it went off.
The second group showed me what the cookie was doing.. they were all over the place in about an 8" group, still low.
I have no idea where the the Lyman bullets went. I never got them on the paper and couldn't tell where they were going. Seems everytime I shot, someone lit off a smoke grenade in front of my shooting stand. Didn't have a spotter to help out with that.
I think me shooting low with the buckhorn can be attributed to my not getting along with it.
