March 20,2005 we had our first match of the season. It was not particularly cold for this time of the year, but everyone had hoods up. The 38 supers and 40 cal. shooters had their fair share of problems. The 45s just kept on. It was a 30 shot match with three barricades, steel and paper targets.
It just goes to show a good design is a compromise of all factors. Are there guns that are more accurate yep. Are there guns with less recoil, yep. Are there guns that shoot faster, yep. The real deal is a gun that will fire and function over a wide range of temperatures and conditions. Hit a target consistently. While having the ability to fire multiple rounds and have fast reload capabilities, it really only takes one to drop the target.
For all the things a 1911 won't do, it still is my go to gun in an emergency
