Your time line might be reasonable IF the smith was sitting by the phone just waiting for you to call in an order. That is not the case and your order has to take its’ place in line. Sometime you will luck out and he will have what you want on the shelf but mostly it isn’t that way. If you are looking for quick turnaround look for a smith who isn’t so well known but still gets good marks on his work. He probably isn't as busy as the others and has a shorter backlog.

I'm still waiting for a BB 6mm TCU but it's "only" been a few months.  I think the problem is that many of the barrel makers don't have barrels with lugs all ready to go.  If they did, all they'd have to do is cut to length, crown, chamber, and finish, and the turn around would be fairly quick.  Instead I think they basically start from scratch when the order comes in.  I think the exception to this is SSK.  Their turn around is much shorter from what I hear.       It seems to me that JD is just much better at running his business.  His prices are up there, but from what I hear his quality is top notch.

I was over to Bullberry a few weeks ago talking to Fred while he was working. He was cutting the ejector slots in a run of about 30 barrels. It appears they do barrels in groups and just depends on when you order when it get put in line. I know there are steps only Fred does so sometimes things get backed up a little.  I know some delays are created by barrel manufacture shipping time to Fred"s door.
