NOW is the time to get your Spring Bvr traps ready!
« on: March 16, 2005, 01:24:52 AM »
Get those body gripping traps and footholds ready before open water comes.   Make sure you have swivels right next to conibear on chains and add chain.   I have four foot of chain on mine besides the swivel right at conibear spring.  Also put  your wire on end of chain for securing conibear and  set springs and wrap around conibear... then when setting all you have to do is grab conibear and set out and you are on your way.  Also double check that your triggers are all in good shape and conibear goes off without excess play in trigger so you get a good behind the head catch.  On foot holds  makes sure you have swivels also and that you have your drowning  set ups  (cables or heavy wire) ready to go with differant lengths or adjustable cable lengths...   Have your bvr scent ready and if you use  sight  sticks  ( popular ect) , cut these ahead of time so you arent wandering around looking for them.  Sometimes where you set for beaver there arent any sticks available.   If  your bvr line is away fm home make sure you have a freezer to take along or avaible to put skinned hides in  so you can spend yr time trapping and not putting up hides.. when season is done you can put hides up when you have more time....   Good luck and  be safe on your line...

40 degrees today sure has brought trappers out of the cabin fever syndrome and over to my shop to buy beaver lure.  It has been a constant succession of customers and phone calls since about 10:00 this morning.   Ace

OK Wacky, just because the closest thing to a beaver in your country is an armadillo, don't be jealous!  All of the  beaver in your area got tired of building sand storm dams out of tumbleweeds and moved on eons ago for a drink of fresh water, LOL  :) Ace

Well, nobody is thinking beaver around my locality today.  With 10" of new snow last night I haven't even had one beaver lure customer come or even call to inquire today.  Ace  P.S. Hey Wacky, are you sure that thing that cut on your cottonwood wasn't a 'dillo in disguise?   Ace

Asa,I have been getting lure orders from all over .Shipped to Wi,TN,and Pa. yesterday.
WE also got 10 inches of snow,it will be about a month before ice leaves us---thats if it finally gets warmer.
Lee ,once the temps hit 50,I will get all my 330s dipped for my spring line.I have dipped when the temps were 30,but darn ,the hands get cold.
My freezer in the garage went out---lost about 75 rats, what a let down.
Darn thing must have overheated before it gave up the ghost.
Just goes to show , a guy has to watch those freezers constantly.

Only ten inches Tom?  I was praying for at least 2 feet for the I-94 corridor.  Followed by a week of 20 below.

Some of the creeks are open and spots on the river are open. One of my friends has 323 beaver so far this season. He also has 25 mink,135 coyotes and 73 bobcats. He is an ambitious go getter. At our spring district meeting on Saturday he apologized for not having caught more coyotes as beaver trapping cut in to his coyote line.Ah to be young again.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!
