After market trigger for Rem.700

What is a good aftermarket trigger for the Remington 700 in 300 mag.After only three shots,I've decided that I need a better trigger.The one in it now breaks at 5 lbs.and no creep.I did get an inch and a quarter three shot group with it right out of the box though.I only know of one gunsmith in my area and I don't really know anything about his work so that is why I am tring to do my own reserch and then throw it in his lap.Oh,I a dirty bird!

Timney makes a drop in trigger assembly for the 700. You can get it with or without the safety installed. Price runs from about $80 to $150. Depnding on which you want! You can get them with an adjustable trigger pull from about 4oz. to 4lbs.  Most folks can install the assembly themselves with little or no trouble. Shilen is another good after mrket trigger. If you are useing your rifle for hunting either is good. :wink:

..........The only one I have personally used is a Jewell and you will NEVER regret the money if it is within your budget.......you can install and ajust it yourself if you have a pin punch set and hammer........most factory triggers can be ajusted-tweaked by a good smith for hunting use....BUT the latest triggers seem to be much worse and I couldn't get my last one to adjust and stay consistant as the half dozen others I have had and adjusted and just treated myself to the Jewell............they will ruin you for regular triggers.....good luck and good shooting!!

See if you can find a competent 'smith to work over the factory trigger. It doesn't cost much, and properly adjusted and dialed in a factory Remington 700 trigger will please 95% of folks that try it. The Jewell is probably the best of the aftermarket triggers, (well, I'd still put a Kenyon in front of a Jewell) but it'll still have to be installed and dialed in to be correct.

I have had my Rem700 triggers adjusted by a competent gunsmith for $40, here in GA.  3lbs, no creep, no overtravel - and they are sweet - and safe!

Take the money you save and spend it on something else.

Remington triggers are OK.  They do contain an extra part that is not under spring tension. If this part is damaged or interfered with but dirt or crud, it can cause the rifle to become damgerous(think accidental discharge).  Properly maintained these are excellant triggers and there are literally millions of them out there working just fine..  If the trigger tension can't be turned down(to around 3-3 1/2 pounds) the trigger return spring will need replacing. That's would be a good time to get a good smith involved..

I installed a Rifle Basix varmint model in my 700 6mm/284. The installation was straight forward with the only semi-hard part being that you have to install the factory safety and bolt release onto the Basix housing. When installed the pull was 8OZ so I raised it to 1 lb. and tested it everyway I've ever heard of and it didn't go off unless the trigger was pulled. They make three different types for the 700. Comp. 4OZ to 12OZ(no safety) Varmint 8OZ to 1.5lbs. Hunting 2 to 4 lbs. The release is every bit as good as a Jewel at half the price. Mine cost $100 from Sinclair Int. I think Midway carries them now and they sell direct from the factory I've seen their ads in "The Varmint Hunter". If any of this sounds foreign to you then have a gunsmith do the installation for you, It's cheap insurance. As stated above the factory trigger can be adjusted but, this is not a job for an amateur.

I didn't say that exactly.  If the return spring is too heavy to allow the trigger pull to be adjusted to about a 3 pound pull then the return spring must be replaced and that I don't really suggest an ameture do that.  Adjusting the trigger is gairly straight forward and safe if the rifle is tested afterwards..
