30-30 for a sight upgrade

I took my 30-30 handi to the gun smith today for a new set of iron sights...I chose to do this because i wanted to get a higher front sight to use with my peep....I had a new pair of remington sights laying at home....nef only has one hole taped for the front and rear sight so he is going to drill and tap the 2 extra holes i need....I got this idea from someones pictures of there handi rifles on this sight.....It looked cool with those sights on.....So i'm going to try it......I can't remember who it was? But i think the handi was a 45-70...anyone else change out there iron sights for a different manufactures sights :-) ?????? Dale

Junior Doughty has pics of his 45-70 but I use a different shorty ramp sight than his that actually fits the barrel and doesn't need to be epoxied in place but still uses the original H&R screw with the new Williams shorty ramp.

I had pics up of a Marbles peep installed on a Tracker II with the front ramp dovetailed for a sight blade.

Went to the gun smith at Gander today to pick the 30-30 up...It looks great ...The smith had to drill 2 holes and tap the front one out bigger.....now it has dovetail front sight with a 1/16 gold bead......the back sight is a ramp sight with left & right adjustment.....i took the rear sight off and installed my peep sight......but being i had the front dove tail installed i thought i may as well get the rear ramp sight drilled and tapped also...         I sighted it in and i'm very pleased with the bead front sight...shoots great! just what the doctor ordered .......$30 bill

Sounds like a great upgrade 3006bluffhunter. I'll bet that barrel looks a lot better now!!!!....<><.... :grin:

I bought a set from "one ragged hole".  Cheaper than most and a 5 minute [actual] installation.  Came with two apertures  and uses the same front sight.  Results--much smaller patterns with these old eyes.  Should work great for distances to maybe 125 yds. [which is a long shot where I hunt in western Maine].  The two apertures are for < 50 yds and >50 yds-I was really surprised how the sight picture improved from the factory sights--the left over aperture was installed on my ruger 357 security six so now I have a 357 rifle with the small aperture and the 6 inch revolver with the large aperture for less than $30.
