Callin' all Encore Help !!!!!!!!!!! (again)
« on: March 11, 2005, 10:09:36 AM »
Ok guys, I appreciate all the info you've given me so far.  Now I'm ready to take the next step!  I just sent the $$$ off for a used 15" 7mm-08 encore pistol barrel w/a straight 4x Simmons Scope that is mounted with Leupold rings on a Leupold base.  (I bought it off of this site).  I always worry about getting ripped off when I send money orders, but so far.... (on ebay at least), I haven't gotten "ripped" yet. (knocking on wood).

Now...................   I've been reading about oversized hinge pins and putting washers under the forearm.  Do I need to do this or wait and see how it shoots first?  Obviously, if it shoots ok, then I don't need to do any of that, right?  I have a new rubber grip and forearm coming from ebay. Can I use the screws that are on my shotgun forearm, or do I need to buy new ones?  Sorry for so many questions (again).  But I really appreciate any and all advice I've gotten and hope to get in the future.
(If ya'll have any archery questions, feel free to "shoot" ! LOL!

Thanks again,,,,,,,..................   Derek.

Your rubber grip and forearm should include the necessary forearm screws and grip bolt.  That rubber grip/forearm set should negate any need for any washers to float the forearm, anyway they are not necessary on the two that I have set up like that.

Assuming everything is standard and nobody has reamed out your barrel and frame, the standard hinge pin should work just fine.

Just put it together and enjoy.

me personally.........only thing i would do would be to float the forearm. a couple ss washers, and some careful sanding of the insides of the forearm may help. i don't want the barrel touching the forearm, other than at the screw attachment points.
i think it helps a lot.

a good trigger sure won't hurt nuthin. if it's heavy to pull...........lightening it will help a great deal.

oversize hing pins etc...........ain't fer me

I don't believe in the oversized pin either. I have tested a few barrels with them and it hurt accuracy in most every one. The ones it didn't hurt, it didn't help either. As for the rubber forend theres not much you can do to that. It should be just fine. Just remember that to get good accuracy out of a tc pistol you need to shoot it consistently the same way. If using a rest be sure to place the forearm on the rest at the same place every time or you will probably see groups that are not consistent.  KN

If we were shooting in a vacuum with the guns in a machine rest I wonder how much good any of these mods would do.  Everyone (me included) has tricks and tweaks that I think act more on our confidence level than on the mechanics of how the guns are shooting.  And so much is dependent on our mental state that if the pins and washers give you an  edge then they are well worth it.
