Now I know I'm shooting the right caliber(look at the density lbs per cu. in.) :-D  :-D

From Precision Steel Warehouse, Inc.

Electrical Conductivity* 28.0
Thermal Conductivity** 70

Mechanical Properties Brass 70/30
Tensile Strength P.S.I. - Hard and Aged N/A
Tensile Strength P.S.I. - Spring Temper 96,000
Fatigue Strength P.S.I. - Hard and Aged N/A
Fatigue Strength P.S.I. - Spring Temper 27,000

Yella Hammer - Have you ever looked into the variety of mixes of brass and bronze?  If I'm right the ratio given 70/30 is zinc/copper where bronze has tin and copper.  There are quite a few different alloying materials as well.

I've had some cannon balls poured from zinc - which is about the same density as cast iron & therefore about the same ballistically.

So, whatchya gonna make?

Let me know how you do with those hammers.  My son-in-law wants to get into Garden Railroad as a hobby, I thought we could cast up our own wheels with scrap brass.  At least it sounds like a plan.  JB
