Red Dot powder for .45 colt loads?
« on: February 10, 2003, 05:55:58 AM »
Heyya ya'll

I know I am beginning to sound like a broken record ref the reloadin stuff, and I apologize for askin all these rookie reloader questions.

With  that said; I like using Red Dot for my shotgun reloadin.  Is there a .45 colt load with lead bullets that uses Red Dot as well?

I have some reloadin books that Caleath swapped to me.  They seem to have jacketed bullet info, but not lead bullet info.  Those books will be useful to me for some of my non-CAS reloads.  Can you recommend a book/publication that deals primarily with lead bullet reloads for rifle and handgun?

Here's what my mentors and I use:
for the .45LC pistol:  5.0 gr of Red Dot over a 200 gr RNFP bullet
for the .45LC rifle:  6.0 gr Red Dot over a 250 gr RNFP bullet.
He feels the rifle needs the additional length of the 250 gr bullet to be accurate.  The 200 gr in the hand gun is to keep the recoil down

Heyya ya'll

Well, thank you all for the responses.  Caleath, I will check that lyman book....I maybe didn't look in there ( started playin with the mec 650 I bought instead of looking at all the stuff you sent real close).

Ten days till the Dillon 650 gets here.  Now I just hafta find a good lead bullet brand.

Cheyenne, what primers do you use?  Currently I am using the 200 grain Ten X brand ammo for both pistol and rifle.  Seems to be workin well.

I use Win and Federals.  Usually go with what I can find or what is cheaper if both are present.  CCI's and I don't get along--they are made of a harder metal and if you don't seat them fully they have a tendency to go "click"   this is not a good sound.
