I'd have to think about that one for a while, but I'd like to know your thoughts on it.

Ah finally a question I can wrap my mind around. I'd hate to limit myself to only 500 but that makes a lot more sense than any other number I've seen asked about.

Yep, GB. It's a deceptively tough chore when you think about it. I'm almost up to 500 just on the list of presentation grade double rifles I'd like to own.  I just may have to drop them all off the list and restart with just the bare bones essentials of a handgun collection.

Vern:

I assume that you, like me, are figuring in variations in finish (like blued vs. stainless).  It's becoming pathetically obvious that 500 is a ridiculously low number for the average shooter.

Rediculously low -- no room for Kimbers, Rugers, Springfields, and so on. :)

« Reply #13 on: March 02, 2005, 11:53:48 PM »
The thought of having 500 guns is silly. Anyone with more than 400 is a borderline gun nut and as any good liberal will tell you, probably some kind of right wing extremist militia kook.
In an effort to promote moderation and good sense I urge you all to limit yourselves to 400 guns or less. Give peace a chance.

V-Man is absolutely right.  Send the extra ones to ME....I am not nearly up to snuff yet.  Your generousity and compassion will be rewarded in heaven.  Plus it will just make you feel better to know you have donated to the Needy.

Sorry but I've decided 500 is just not enough to cover the bases. No way to make 400 do the job. Reckon we'll just have to be known as gun nuts.

Robert when you get your 500 I'll help take care of some of the one you don't really want, no sense throwing away slightly used unwanted firearms. :-)

« Reply #17 on: March 03, 2005, 10:16:29 AM »
It seems I am so badly out of step with you guys that I starting to wonder; If I stop at just 400 does that make me a liberal?
I couldn't live with that. Maybe I'll reconsider. Owning 500 might not be such a terrible thing after all. Now which one of you "moderates" will help me convince Mrs. V-man.

I'll guess I have to limit my self to one of each example of the catalog section of Gun Digest, but that is really limiting it.

I always thought of collecting "100" guns would be fun but i'm not even close.  I would go with all military surplus guns first but "500" would be easy since there are 1,000 different mausers alone.  I think 2,000 would be more a realistic number if i was to enclude everything in my wants and desires.  YUP 2,000++ would be the number to shoot for.    BigBill

NewHampshire  nice collection that guy has there heck they think just "10" guns with a "BB" gun thrown in is an arsenal here??

I would start with one of each model: Dakota, Kimber, Weatherby, Wilson, STI, Para-Ordinance, Springfield, Sako and Benelli. Then I would select a few from Ruger, Winchester and Remington.

I think that would be a good start.

 Guns are kinda like children, if you love one, ya love 'em all.  Why stick to one brand when there is so much to appreciate from every manufacturer?  I have some high dollar, high quality guns, but I also have some cheap stuff.  I hug 'em all every time I open the safe.  Guess I just got a thing for guns period...................

I'll start with 100 each of the best Marlins, Smith & Wessons, Colts, and Kimbers, then add a few strays here and there as I find them.  Good thing we're all being rational about this, or some might think we're hoarding those guns!

I keep trying but I haven't been able to get my list anywhere near that small. Thats with not even adding the one I wouldn't shoot much.

Creedmore, WhitworthsSharps, Ballards, Greaners, the list goes on.  8)

Come on guys don't want to own a piece of history?? Something full of cosmoline to clean?  Something that just speaks of battles won and lost when you hold it?  I like modern guns too but there's nothing like an old war horse than can still print as good as any modern gun can.  I just wish they could talk about what they have done and where they have been too. These battle worn pieces of history deserve a good home too.  I just don't have room for them all so you have to help me save them?  Well a few of them anyway.   There's plenty of mausers and mosins to go around yet from $59 to $125??  (no scope needed)                                BigBill
