I have an unusual question, How does one deactivate a primer without firing it ? I am making some decorative accessories for my gun room and would like to use unfired brass with unfired primers to get the appearance I am looking for.  I guess I want to chemically alter and make safe the primer, if that is possible.

When I did that with a ring I made out of a 45/70 base I soaked it in water and then took a drill and drilled out the insides of the primer with out damaging the outside of it and then took a pick and picked out any material that was left it seated fine. It was a neat looking ring until I lost it.

just soak 'em in gun oil or motor oil for that matter.  It kills 'em.
