Just mounted a new scope to the wife's new Ruger compact. Took it to the range and was less than impressed with the the groups impact point. Low and to the way to the right (about 7 inches low and about 11 inches to the right). The groups were not to bad for my first loads. Obviously I'm far from an expert here, but I ASSumed that the Ruger rings would be close to dead on since they have special male/female tabs and grove to align them. I really don't want to make an 11" adjustment on a new scope if the rings need to be adjusted. Advice?

Eleven inches at what distance?

If at 100 yards just do it. If at 25 yards you probably don't have enough adjustment anyway.

New scopes should be mechanically centered, but that isn't always the case. To center the reticle, place a mirror against the objective lense, look thru the scope and you should see 2 pairs of reticles, although somewhat dimly. Adjust the windage and elevation turrets so you can only see one set of X hairs, in other words, so they are lined up with each other. One set you are seeing is the actual X-hair, the other is a reflection in the mirror. These are Luepold's instructions and it works on almost all scopes with a few exceptions. If you still have a zero problem, you'll probalbly need to change your mounting system

quikdtoo it was a brand new scope and I assumed it would be centered. I'll try your instructions.

I figured it would be a couple of inches off left or right at most, and that the elevation would be reasonable. Just a bit more adjustment than I expected. I made no adjustment while at the range today.
